Skin Dehyration - Never ever Ignore it

We tend to think skin dryness and dehydration mean the same thing, but did you know that there's a whole world of difference between the two? Dry skin refers to inadequate oil or sebum production, while dehydrated skin means lack of moisture and can happen to all skin types, even oily skins. Find out how to combat skin dehydration and restore your skin's natural moisture balance.

Dry skin vs. Dehydrated skin
While the cause of dry skin is usually hereditary or ageing, dehydrated skin is caused by an upset of the moisture level maintained by the skin's surface. For your skin to be in optimal health, it has to have ample moisture. Only then can your skin reap the benefits of any skincare product. However, with ageing and other factors like work stress and smoking, your skin becomes unable to maintain the moisture level needed for supple skin.

Signs of dehydrated skin
So what are the tell-tale signs of skin dehydration? If you experience some or all of the following, your poor skin is crying out for moisture!
· Areas of flaky skin
· Patches of sensitive areas that are blotchy or become reddened easily
· Skin tightness or discomfort
· Dull complexion
· Difficulty in blending or putting on makeup

· Flare up of adult acne

Oily skins beware of dehydration
It is possible for oily skin to be dehydrated. In fact, there are so many women with oily complexion who mistakenly believe that moisturizing products are acne-causing, that they completely neglect the moisturizing step of skin care.In fact, because women with dry skin tend to moisturize religiously, it is little wonder that dehydration is sometimes more serious in individuals with oily skin than those with dry skin. Skin dehydration may sometimes trigger excessive sebum production, resulting in an even oilier complexion, or even adult acne. That's why it's important not to skip your moisturizer even if you have oily skin type.

Hydration tips
· Moisturize. Remember, don't skip your moisturizer just because you have oily skin . For oily and combination skin type , choose a light-textured moisturizer for a grease-free feeling. If you have dry or ageing skin, opt for moisturizers with richer emollients to help with skin dryness as well.
· Use face masks. Treat your skin to deep moisturizing or intense hydrating masks frequently, approximately once or twice a week, or every 3-5 days. The essence or hydration ingredients work to give your skin an extra dose of much needed moisture, in addition to your regular moisturizer.
· Drink ample fluids. Drink water to replenish fluid loss, especially if you're under the hot sun, working out or in an air-conditioned room for long hours.
