How-to blusher techniques to accentuate your cheekbones
Blusher works wonders to complete your makeup look. It accentuates the contour of your face and also lends a healthy pink to the cheeks. But when misused, you can end up looking bruised or gaunt. Read on for tips and techniques to bring out the perfect blush for your face shape.
Powder Blush vs Cream Blush
To achieve that healthy look with the blush, you should first invest in a good quality blush brush if you're using the powder blush. A good brush blends the color naturally onto your cheeks. If you're using a cream blush, the rouge should be applied, spread and blended to the cheeks with your fingertips in small amounts.

Start from the Apple of the Cheeks
Apply blush onto the apple of your cheeks. Don't know where? Smile, and you will see the fleshy part that stands out the most--this is the apple of your cheeks. The reason why some end up with bruised-looking cheeks is because they have applied the blush out of the apples area, or too heavily. The key is to be naturally-looking, so go easy on the blush.Tap off the excess blush from the brush before applying. Start at the apple of your cheeks and blend up and back toward your ear in light, slightly curved strokes.

Round Shaped Face
You will need to create the illusion of a more chiselled look by sculpting your face.Apply shading under the cheekbones in the hollow part of your cheeks to make your face appear leaner.Apply blush to the mid cheeks slightly under the bone and blend towards the ear, avoiding the apple of the cheeks.Brush the highlight along the tops of your cheekbones for a more sculpted finish.

Heart Shaped Face
You have a wide forehead and high cheekbones that taper down to the chin.Apply blush just slightly under the cheekbone and to the apple of the cheek.Avoid any shading or dark color under the cheeks or you will look gaunt.Since your cheekbones are already high, you don't need to highlight the top.

Square Shaped Face
You will need to soften your contours.Go light on the blusher as your features are strong enough. Apply blush along the cheekbones and to the apple of the cheeks. This facial shape usually has flat cheekbones, so highlight the higher area on the cheekbones to create a hollow.

Long Shaped Face
You will want to have more chubby-looking cheeks to soften your face.Achieve this by using the blusher on the apples of the cheeks to give them a fuller rounder look.Avoid shading the sides of the cheeks as it will only make your face appear narrower.
